The Journey

In 2022, I struggled and questioned if all the effort was worth it. A mentor reminded me to enjoy the journey, connect the dots in hindsight, and constantly upgrade myself. Every challenge shapes you into a better version of yourself.

How Hard Is It?

In 2022, I went through a really tough year. At one point, I even considered giving farming a try. Maybe I thought it would be more fulfilling than spending hours staring at a computer screen.

This went on for months. Towards the end of the year, around December 28th, I reached out to a mentor of mine. Out of desperation to change my situation, I asked him how he did it. Is it always this hard?

As someone who has seen it all and has far more experience in this thing called life, he shared some invaluable advice:

  1. Don’t set goals and don’t time yourself.
  2. Enjoy the journey.
  3. You can’t connect the dots looking forward, only looking backward.
  4. Constantly upgrade yourself.

I know; it sounds counterintuitive to say “don’t set goals or time yourself.” My mentor explained it, but for now, we’ll skip that part.

Enjoy the Journey

Many years ago, I saw a meme on Facebook that said: “We are too focused on where we are going that we forget to enjoy where we are.”

The journey to becoming the best version of yourself is never smooth. It’s full of ups and downs, iterations, and moments that make you want to give up. Life isn’t a bed of roses, and that’s okay. The best we can do is enjoy the process. Every challenge and iteration along the way makes you stronger, sharper, and better prepared for whatever you’re aiming to become.

Here’s one of the greatest speeches of the modern era that captures this mindset beautifully:

Constantly Upgrade Yourself

Finally, never stop upgrading yourself. Improve your skills, expand your knowledge, grow your network, and refine your environment. Make sure you don’t go to bed the same person you were yesterday. If you commit to constant growth, one day you’ll be grateful that you did.

I’m just being honest” has become the anthem of emotional immaturity. Real intelligence asks one question first: does this need to be said?
